What are your children doing to drive you nuts?

For those of us that have children, we all know that motherhood can be amazing!  It can be rewarding, fun, satisfying, fulfilling, blah, blah, blah!  Now let’s visit the flip side and discuss the things children do that challenge us and test our patience on a daily basis.  You know, the things that make you want to blow your brains out!

I know after reading that last sentence, something immediately popped into your head.  Something your child does that makes you want to pull out your hair and at the very least just annoys the fu@# out of you!  Am I right?

ANNOYING BEHAVIORS

KEEP CALM AND THEN BLOW YOUR BRAINS OUT BUTTON

Today I thought I’d share a list of things that are currently annoying me.  Perhaps they’ll sound familiar.

  • Repeating things over and over again.  Repeating things over and over again.  Repeating things over and over again.  Somebody stop me! Apparently it’s contagious (heaven help me)!  When Alivia wants something, she will ask for it repeatedly!  Not just once, twice, or three times either.  No.  I’m talking about saying it at a minimum of 50 times over the course of a day.  Of course I’ve never actually counted but I’m confident it’s a good guesstimate.  What’s worse?  I can’t block it out!  It’s so frustrating.  So, what to do then?  I demand she stop using my outdoor voice (yes, I’ve found raising my voice is absolutely necessary)!  Usually she’ll stop for a short period of time, but inevitably starts right back up again!
  • Whining.  It drives me insane!  Do I really need to elaborate?
  • Clinginess.  Don’t get me wrong, I love to hold Alivia and I relish the time we spend cuddling, kissing, and hugging but, for the love of God, can I pee alone?  Sometimes I swear she’d crawl right back into where she came from (if you know what I mean) if she could!  It’s scary to think about.
  • Being overly dramatic.  Let me give you an example: Alivia doesn’t like to walk around with bare feet outside.  Not a huge deal since we don’t make it a habit to go barefoot on a regular basis.  However certain summer activities like swimming and going to the beach require bare feet.  God forbid she gets out of the pool and I have to put her down on the grass for a few seconds to grab her a towel.  From the screams, you’d think I was beating her!
  • A chatterbox. Here’s the thing.  I’m not very vocal.  I never have been.  I’m a very “to myself” type of person and have always been able to play or do things quietly.  Of course it came with a price.  It was more difficult to make friends and communicate effectively.  Later, I even developed social anxieties.  Wonderful, I know.  Although I love that Alivia is the complete opposite in that she is very outgoing, eager, and curious, with it came extreme chattiness.  And not just chattiness here and there, I’m speaking of constant chattering.  Often I can’t keep up with her.  I’m not going to lie, I lack the social stamina. Always have.  And usually sooner than later, the chit chatting that I’m finding so difficult to follow has now become noise.  Once that happens, you guessed it, I’m searching for the closest electrical pipe I can hang myself from!
  • Laziness.  If you made a mess in the middle of the kitchen floor, I expect you to clean it up and without my help!  Alivia pulls the ol’ “I’m tired mama”, “Can you help”?  Well you weren’t too tired to make the mess right?  My favorite is: “Can you feed me”?  Did I mention Alivia is almost 3?  Are your freakin’ kidding me?  Is the fork too heavy?  Give me a break.  No really, I just need a break!
toddler in vintage romper, what are your children doing to drive you nuts

With all that said, I’m sure you have your own stories to share and I really hope you do.  Don’t make me feel like I’m alone here!

If you missed my previous post, Inspiring Blog Headers II, I hope you’ll check it out!

  1. Oh god yes to all of the above. Seriously, I love my two little girls to death, but is it bad that when I read your title (at 9 am in the morning), my first thoughts were, "What don't they do that annoys me!!" Seriously there is plenty I love about them, but the whining, the repeating and the constant toy avalanches in my house, just get me all day and week long. Thank you for sharing and letting me know it isn't just me!!

  2. ALL OF THESE THINGS! And so much more! My 3 yr old is such a Drama Queen, everything is such a big deal! The tears, the needing to turn the light BACK ON so that SHE can turn it off HERSELF. UGH.
They are adorable, that is their saving grace! :)

  3. OMG! LOVE this! Ha! One thing that really annoys me is the whining and clinginess. She hasn't talk yet but for some reason she tends to whine a lot and I don't know why. She also likes to be hold ALL THE TIME. It's frustrating! I love her but there are times that I just want to cry out of frustrations. Lol

  4. Really? That little angel in the picture? I don't believe it. :-)

  5. Oh yes, the repetition! If my daughter wants something she'll ask for it and then two seconds later, again, and again and again and again. I've actually snapped back, "Wait..I forgot. What do you want again?" Three-year-olds don't understand sarcasm.

I don't think it's possible for you to take a bad photo either! Seriously awesome.

  6. Yes!!! OMG she's either clinging to me one second or running off into the street the next! Yesterday I just couldn't wait until bed time so I could sit down with a glass of wine!

  7. My boys are into Minecraft. And that's ALL they talk about constantly. And I just don't get the fascination with the game and it's so very difficult to try to look interested when it's so very boring to me. But I try...and try...and try...
I think we mommas all understand what you're saying here!

  8. All of the above (except clinginess. We are past that...mostly).

What drives me absolutely batty is the fighting/arguing. With 4 sons, that is pretty much constant! Bleh!

    Gorgeous photo!!!

Stopping by from the Hump Day Hookup!

  9. I totally get that this is a cute funny post... but today is the 6th anniversary of the day we believe my brother "blew his brains out" and I can't really laugh at the wording or imagery. I'm not okay with that being used any day, but today, when I was hopping through from A Mother Life, hoping for some funny, it especially bothers me.

I truly don't tell you this to be mean or make you feel sorry for me- but as awareness that there are thousands upon thousands of us who are hurt by people so carelessly using that type of thing.

  10. OMG, yes!!!!! The repetition KILLS me--it instantly sends me flying off the edge! And the laziness, and the clinginess, and the ceaseless chatter...you nailed it. Just wait for the attitude that arrives with the 3rd birthday ;) I can't wait to read your post on that!

  11. haha...Oh yes! I totally relate, my little guy just turned 4 and let me tell you, it gets worse :( At least we are not alone! And not every second of every day is bad...just maybe 3/4's of it :P

  12. All of the above!

However, they are really sweet children. For example, I brought my son to my Crossfit class this morning and the final leg of our WOD was to do a hill sprint. There were TONS of kids there, so our Coach said "Whomever loses to a child will have a 10 burpee penalty!" Soooo, me being the slowest sprinter in history is behind every man, woman, and child. My son says "Hurry, Mom! Get in front of me so you won't be last!"

I about melted on the spot. That could have been the 90 degree temp with 99% humidity, but it was extremely kind of him to let Mama win!

  15. Oh my - I'm laughing and nodding and commiserating all at the same time! My kids are now in their teens and twenties, but oh yes...I remember those days! (And please, please, please don't hate me for saying this? These years of constant chattering and whining and asking and - really mostly - clinging? You'll look back on them and smile and laugh too someday!) But then, there are the teen years...and don't get me started on those!

Following you back on Bloglovin ")

  16. Whining pushes my button so quickly! Unfortunately for my step-daughters, I think my sons wore out my patience for whining.
Thanks for visiting my blog earlier, I love those pictures of your little girl, she is amazingly beautiful!

  17. Oh my goodness, the repeating thing drives me crazy... although it is more that I have to repeat myself so many times to get my little bear to do anything. Time to put your shoes on, put your shoes on please, shoes on now, SHOES! When people tell me how cute my son is, half the time I just laugh and tell them only when he wants to be!

Thank you for spreading JOY and sharing at the Oh What a HAPPY Day party.

  18. Ha, just you wait, as she grows older, these things will be amplified! I recently wrote a post about the gazillion questions I get asked daily. Who knew that a thunderstorm could spark such a movement!

  20. Oh, I cannot stand the whining either! And the clinginess drives me up the wall some days. Your girl walks barefoot? My son wants to walk 'bare' all the time!

  21. Yes to the whining :) My youngest seems to do it all day!

  23. Oh gosh, don't get me started on the clinginess issue! Sometimes I just want to use the bathroom in peace, without my daughter sticking her hand down the toilet as I sit on it...

And thanks for following! I just started following you on bloglovin ;)

  24. I loved this post. I can totally relate. My little girl planks if she doesn't get her own way. I'm not kidding either. She full on throws herself on the ground and planks. I don't even think she was born when planking was popular so I have no idea where she learned it from.

  26. I just think of the old Staples commercial, where the dad is dancing down the isle buying school supplies and the song "The Most Wonderful Time of The Year" is playing. I laugh so hard and feel the same way.

  27. Do you know how many times a day I say out loud (or sometimes in my head, but mostly out loud) could you PLEASE stop talking?! Just for 5 minutes? Please!

  28. OMG I finally am getting to catch up on my blog reading LOL!
I am laughing about the repeating thing - Julianna repeats the same thing over & over like when she's asking for something "I want cheerios. I want cheerios mama. I want cheerios" even if I tell her 5x I am getting it for her. Holy crap I want to scream LOL.
Overly dramatic & whining? Are you sure you're not talking about Julianna! LMAO! She is the queen of whine lately - and add in a 7 week old baby brother that she is feeling threatened by, and you get super beeeatchy whiner! My husband, who is normally very patient with her, was ready to throw her overboard our boat the other day LOL )Ok just kidding- don't call CPS!) - Lately she has been the worst behaved she has ever been. I know it has to do with the new baby. We try to give her attention whenever possible of course - but his needs sometimes come first and I think its taking it's toll on her. She did tell him she loves him yesterday - that was so cute - but I know she feels slighted sometimes still! :)

  29. You are so not alone!!! As much as I love my son he also has the power to drive me insane. I have even locked myself in the bathroom just to get a 5 minute break (if you don't lock the door they just come in). The biggest thing is not listening, not sure if this is a boy thing or the age or what but I must repeat myself 15 million times a day UG!!
Word on the street is it never gets easier.....at least that is what my Mom told me.
